faceted dress in MD

following the instruction on the Pattern Magic book. adding 3d shapes on the bodice by drafting 2d triangles from the basic sloper i made. it seemed easy but i had to take out a pen & a paper and a compass to practice. felt like back to elementary school drawing triangles by plotting interesting points from circles.

once I got a hang of it, i started to populate the rest of the bodice with shapes. i changed the armpit gusset to give degree of freedom but the rest of the pattern manipulation is really based on the basic sloper and the end result fits all well because of it.

why i do this? i usually don’t on cartoon characters since there are so many cheats during animation. when i see realistic humans with mocap animation, especially in action, i wonder how many out of box simulation fails due to bad tailoring. iif i made a costume correctly for action movement, i assume the simulation result is good (?) and in order to make a good fit outfit comes from customized slopers for characters. putting post-it notes on next patten practice now… this is a pretty fun exercise.
